Dr Muhammad Yunus’s reluctance to divulge that the ownership of all the seven companies belong to 10.05 million members of Grameen Bank (GB) serves against the interest of each of the members, says a press release issued by GB.
Another duplicity on part of Yunus was his insistence on claiming ownership of these companies and that these were snatched away from his possessions while the reality is completely opposite, added the release.
The release has been issued in response to an earlier move by Dr Yunus, as the convicted labor law violator, held a press conference where he went on to claim that these companies were propped up out of profit he made but refused to expose the detail of his income sources.
Already facing charges of stripping off workers of stated privileges, Yunus also claimed that the companies had been taken over by force and opposition activists claimed “unknown people” belonged to government were responsible for the act.
But the GB release stated that “the handing over of these companies followed by due course of law and regulation” while “a delegation comprising members of GB board of directors oversaw the procedure and the process happened in broad daylight”, unlike what Yunus had claimed.
“On February 13, Yunus himself was present when the delegation went at the offices of these companies while all the members were greeted warmly even by Yunus himself during the handing over of ownership. It is an official process”, added the release.
“The basis of taking over the ownership stems out from a recent meeting held at Board of Directors office and guided by laws already in place to keep the organization running on behalf of 10.05 million members.” added the release.
Moreover, Yunus branded the takeover “unlawful” without elaborating specific laws but the release pointed out specific laws showing the pre occupation of these companies by Yunus stands contradictory to existing laws that regulates the organization and its members.
This statement has also laid to rest a well circulated what observers say a disinformation campaign by the opposition to claim that “Yunus’s offices are grabbed by ruling party men”.
