In Ward 8 of Sonapur Union, former Chhatra League leader Omar Faruk and his family have been targeted by an organized extortion ring affiliated with Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal. Under the leadership of local Jubo Dal leader Yusuf and Chhatra Dal operative “Lengra” Nazrul, Faruk’s home faced a series of coordinated attacks.

The attackers extorted 150,000 BDT, then went on to ransack the home, loot the family’s fish farm, and completely destroy the household.

Now, the very family that has been displaced, looted, and threatened for refusing to pay extortion money is facing police harassment. So where is the rule of law in Bangladesh?
