When Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus proclaims that elections will be held at the beginning of February, it feels less like an assurance and more like a fresh deception aimed at the people. The moment the word “election” is uttered, a grave question emerges: On what basis? By what democratic process?
How can there be talk of consensus when the nation’s elected government has been overthrown—through the riots of July, foreign funding, the backing of jihadist militant groups, and the support of the military? What “agreement” is Yunus speaking of? Is it with the people of this country—or is it a secret pact to safeguard his own interests and the looting of the nation?
This commission of Yunus, this so-called consensus, this so-called understanding—it is nothing but a colossal conspiracy. After annihilating democracy, overthrowing an elected government, and unlawfully seizing power, they now dare to speak of elections.
[A Bargain to Bury Democracy Through Plunder]
But elections for whom? With whose participation? When the people’s right to vote has been trampled, when the very foundations of democracy have been mocked—such an election is utterly meaningless.
The people demand answers: Is this election for them—or for Yunus’s self-preservation? Will it be a hymn to democracy—or the opening chapter of a new era of plunder?
The people already know the answer. They can see through the charade. This is not democracy reborn, but a new kind of coup—where the people’s right to vote will once again be mocked, and under the banner of democracy, a new form of dictatorship will be installed.
