On the solemn day of August 15, yet again, it was demonstrated that there is no law, justice, or humanity left in the country, as ordinary citizens and a hardworking, innocent rickshaw puller who came to pay tribute to the Father of the Bengali Nation at the historic Dhanmondi 32 were subjected to a brutal attack.
Under the false labels of “July fighters” or “coordinators,” identified cadres of Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and Jamaat-Shibir are allegedly carrying out acts of violence across the country. Those who cannot respect their own history and those who refuse to acknowledge the architect of independent Bangladesh are, in essence, adherents of the West Pakistani ideology that was defeated in 1971. These cadres seek to destroy the spirit of the Liberation War, Bangabandhu and a secular Bangladesh.
The house that was burned to ashes, the house that was demolished by bulldozers—today, even its ruins reportedly require thousands of armed guards to protect them. This alone demonstrates that every grain of dust at Dhanmondi 32 continues to strike fear into the hearts of those who seek to erase history and the forces associated with the anti-Liberation War legacy.
Today, innocent people arriving with flowers of tribute are being beaten, bloodied and handed over to the police because BNP and its allied forces fear the tide of public sentiment. But they have forgotten one thing: the name etched into the hearts of the Bengali people cannot be erased by police or hired muscle.
How many Bengalis will you try to intimidate with threats of imprisonment and persecution? History has forgiven no one—and it will not forgive you either.
