Over the past 17 months, all types of crime have increased across the country, according to Bangladesh Police. Not a single category of crime has declined during the tenure of the illegal Yunus regime; instead, new forms of crime—such as mob violence—have emerged.
Data published on the Bangladesh Police website show that in 2025 there were 1,935 snatching cases, a 37% increase compared to the previous year. Robbery cases totaled 702, up 43% year-on-year. Theft cases increased by 12% (9,672 cases). Meanwhile, kidnapping cases rose by 71% (1,101 cases).
Altogether, 13,410 cases were filed across these four types of crime, representing a 16.48% increase over the previous year. Cases of robbery and snatching alone rose by 39%. Of course, in many instances of theft, snatching, or dacoity, victims are reluctant to go through the hassle of filing cases—a tendency that existed before and continues today.
In total, 9,732 more cases were filed across various crimes in 2025, bringing the overall number of cases to 181,737.
From 2022 to 2025, the trend in theft cases remained relatively stable. However, there has been an alarming rise in snatching, robbery, and kidnapping cases.
Since the announcement of the national parliamentary election schedule (December 11), at least 15 political murders have occurred. According to data compiled by Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), 98 people were killed in political violence between January and November of the previous year.
Meanwhile, a new law-and-order crisis has emerged: mob terror. According to ASK, at least 197 people were killed in mob violence in 2025. In 2024, at least 128 people were killed as victims of mob violence.
Kidnapping cases have surged. Police data indicate a 71% increase in kidnapping cases in 2025, totaling 1,101 cases. Police officials and crime analysts believe that recently there has been a rise in incidents where people are abducted or detained and money is extorted.
Crime exists in every society, no matter how advanced. But it is the state’s responsibility to reduce the level of crime. Ensuring the safety of citizens is the government’s duty. When a government, immediately after taking its oath, releases the most notorious terrorists in the country’s history from prison in the name of “humanity,” the intent of the state becomes clear. The Yunus group came to power by using these top terrorists. In exchange for their release, the terrorists assisted Asif and Nahid in carrying out “corpse politics.” Through them, the leaders of the July genocide had protesting students killed and shifted the blame onto the government. Today, ordinary people are paying the price for that.
